The Finch West Light Rail Transit (LRT) line is now officially open, delivering a major new transit option to Toronto and marking a pivotal moment for the Greater Toronto Area. The new line provides fast, reliable service across Finch Avenue West, significantly improving mobility for communities long underserved by rapid transit.
Delivered in partnership with Metrolinx, Infrastructure Ontario, and the Mosaic Transit Group, the 10.3-kilometre route features 16 new stops and 2 stations, running from Keele Street to Polytechnic’s North Campus. The line connects residents directly to Toronto’s broader transit network, improving access to jobs, education, and essential services.
Arup served as Lead Designer for the project, responsible for the detailed design of rail alignment components, full architectural and engineering services for all stations, integrated urban planning, and support for the replacement of the Highway 400 bridge.
Simon Stephenson, Principal and Project Director at Arup, stated that the Finch West LRT represents more than a new transit corridor, calling it “an investment in equity, opportunity, and urban revitalization.” By reducing commute times and stimulating economic growth along the corridor, the new line is expected to reshape mobility for thousands of daily riders.
As the Finch West LRT begins full public service, Arup reinforces its commitment to advancing resilient, inclusive, and future-ready infrastructure for communities across Canada.
