Jacobs was selected by the City of Boynton Beach in South Florida to design upgrades at two water treatment plants for PFAS removal from the city’s groundwater supplies to comply with new U.S. federal drinking water regulations.
At a combined treatment capacity of 30 million gallons per day, the two plants provide drinking water to more than 112,000 people. In addition to addressing new PFAS regulations, the facility upgrades will replace aging infrastructure and meet the community’s growing demand for water.
“Considering potential federal compliance deadlines, we’re working with the City of Boynton Beach to deliver an effective, long-term PFAS treatment and disposal solution,” said Jacobs Senior Vice President Katus Watson. “We’ve supported the city with their water system challenges for more than 40 years and look forward to designing this next important project.”
Jacobs will assess treatment capabilities for PFAS removal and develop a comprehensive facilities plan for the treatment plants, water supply, and residuals management systems. Once complete, Jacobs will design the improvements and manage construction. The city received funding from Florida’s Drinking Water State Revolving Fund Program for project planning and design.
“We look forward to working with our long-time partner Jacobs on this once-in-a-generation project,” says City of Boynton Beach Utilities Director Poonam Kalkat.
A global leader in PFAS research and treatment, Jacobs has delivered long-term PFAS solutions for the City of Woodbury, Minnesota, the City of North Bay, Ontario, the U.S. Department of Defense, and the Australian Department of Defense.
