Skanska Awarded $62M Contract for Reedy Creek Laboratory Expansion in North Carolina

Modernizing Environmental Research for the Future

Skanska, a global leader in construction and development, has been selected by the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (NC DEQ) to renovate and expand the Reedy Creek Laboratory in Raleigh, North Carolina. This $62 million project, set to begin in March 2025, will enhance research capabilities, modernize laboratory spaces, and improve operational efficiency.

Expanding Research Infrastructure

The multi-phase project includes:

  • A new 33,000-square-foot administration and visitor’s center, connecting two existing buildings
  • Renovation of 53,000 square feet across three buildings to create modular laboratories, modern offices, and new conference areas
  • A new courtyard, enhancing outdoor space for the research campus

Sustainability and Energy Efficiency

The project aims for Green Globes and Energy Star certification by incorporating:

  • A central energy plant to power the entire campus
  • Stormwater collection systems and constructed wetlands
  • Permeable pavers for better water management

“This state-of-the-art campus will help us continue to serve the people as we build a stronger and healthier North Carolina,” said DEQ Secretary Reid Wilson.

The Reedy Creek facility will remain operational throughout the construction, which is expected to be completed by December 2027.
