Komatsu and Bangkok Motor Works Expand Deal Across Southeast Asia

Strategic partnership to enhance construction and mining equipment distribution in four new countries.

Komatsu Ltd. has announced a major expansion of its partnership with Bangkok Motor Works Co., Ltd. (BMW) through a new joint-venture agreement that will extend their distributorship of Komatsu’s construction and mining equipment to Malaysia, Singapore, Myanmar, and Brunei.

Previously, distributorship in these countries was operated solely by Komatsu’s subsidiary, Komatsu Holdings Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. (KHMS). Under the new agreement, BMW will acquire a 60% stake, while Komatsu will retain 40%, marking a shift to a collaborative operating model. The closing process for the agreement has been successfully completed.

Strong Partnership Built Over a Decade

Komatsu and BMW have been working together since:

  • 2010 in Thailand
  • 2015 in Cambodia

Their successful joint ventures in these markets laid the foundation for this regional expansion. The goal is to strengthen market reach, improve customer support, and drive sustainable growth in Southeast Asia’s construction and mining sectors.

Key Objectives of the Expansion

  • Unified regional operations
  • Enhanced service and customer support
  • Stronger market presence and profitability
  • Innovation and value-driven solutions

Komatsu stated that the impact on its consolidated financial results will be limited, but the long-term strategic benefits are expected to be significant.
