Leica MC1 3D Machine Control for Caterpillar Wheeled Excavators

Leica MC1 3D Machine Control for Caterpillar Wheeled Excavators

Leica Geosystems, part of Hexagon AB, has announced the expansion of its advanced 3D machine control solutions to support Caterpillar Next Generation wheeled excavators.

The new aftermarket compatibility allows operators to integrate the Leica MC1 3D machine control solution with Caterpillar’s Next Gen Wheeled Excavators, enabling greater precision and efficiency in excavation operations. The expanded solution is scheduled to be available beginning March 2026.

Expanding Machine Control Capabilities

The latest expansion builds on the 2023 launch of the Leica MC1 3D machine control system for Caterpillar Next Gen Hydraulic Tracked Excavators. With growing demand from contractors using wheeled machines, Leica Geosystems has broadened its offering to include this segment.

The aftermarket solution can be installed directly on Caterpillar’s wheeled excavators, allowing operators to carry out complex excavation tasks with higher accuracy and improved workflow efficiency.

Key benefits include:

  • Enhanced excavation precision through real-time 3D design data
  • Improved jobsite productivity with optimized digging processes
  • Reduced rework and material waste
  • Faster system setup and easier installation

Improving Efficiency and Productivity on Site

According to Martin Verdurmen, President of the Machine Control Division at Hexagon, the new compatibility simplifies installation and accelerates jobsite readiness.

“With Leica Geosystems machine control now easier to set up on Caterpillar’s Next Gen Wheeled Excavators, operators benefit from a smoother start and can get to work faster,” Verdurmen said.

He added that the Leica MC1 system is designed to improve performance, reduce downtime and support more sustainable construction practices by minimizing errors and optimizing equipment usage.

Access Through Authorized Dealers

Customers interested in implementing the system on their equipment can contact local CAT dealers or authorized Leica Geosystems distribution channels for:

  • Compatibility requirements
  • Licensing options
  • Installation and support services

The integration ensures that contractors using Caterpillar Next Gen tracked or wheeled excavators can access advanced digital machine control technology that improves jobsite accuracy and operational efficiency.
