Aligned IAD-06 Data Center Topping Out Celebration

Construction milestone reached as Turner Construction Company celebrated the topping out of the Aligned IAD-06 Data Center, marking the completion of the structural phase of the large-scale digital infrastructure facility in Frederick, Maryland, United States.

The milestone highlights the rapid progress of the project, achieved less than five months after groundbreaking, demonstrating the strong collaboration between Turner, its partners and skilled construction teams working on site.

Major Milestone in Digital Infrastructure Development

The Aligned IAD-06 Data Center is designed as a 72-megawatt (MW) facility supporting the growing demand for digital infrastructure in the region.

Spanning approximately 450,000 square feet, the data center is located on a 75-acre campus and will serve as a critical component in expanding high-performance data processing capacity.

According to Nick Sevier, Operations Manager at Turner Construction Company, the topping-out milestone represents more than the completion of the building’s structural frame.

“Topping out this facility represents more than completing the structural frame,” Sevier said. “It reflects the strength of our partnership with Aligned Data Centers, the dedication of our trade partners, and Turner’s commitment to delivering this complex, high-performance data center safely and efficiently.”

Rapid Construction Progress

The project has achieved significant progress in a short timeframe. Since construction began, the team has recorded:

  • More than 80,000 craft labor hours
  • Participation from approximately 345 skilled workers
  • Completion of the structural steel framework in under five months

This pace reflects extensive early planning and coordination between contractors, engineers and project stakeholders.

Advanced Design and Cooling Technology

The two-story structural steel facility incorporates modern design features intended to enhance efficiency and operational performance.

Key features of the data center include:

  • Insulated precast exterior wall system for improved energy efficiency
  • Hybrid cooling infrastructure integrating both liquid-cooled and air-cooled technologies
  • Infrastructure designed to support high-density computing environments

These innovations enable the facility to meet the increasing demands of cloud computing, data processing and artificial intelligence workloads.

Supporting the Region’s Growing Tech Ecosystem

The Aligned IAD-06 Data Center forms part of the rapidly expanding data center corridor in the U.S. Mid-Atlantic region, where demand for digital infrastructure continues to surge.

By delivering large-scale, high-efficiency facilities, Turner Construction Company and Aligned Data Centers aim to support businesses, cloud providers and technology companies requiring reliable, high-capacity computing infrastructure.

Commitment to Safety and Partnership

The successful topping-out milestone underscores Turner’s emphasis on workplace safety, strong partnerships and efficient project execution.

With the structural phase now complete, construction teams will move forward with interior systems installation, mechanical infrastructure and final commissioning as the project progresses toward completion.

The Aligned IAD-06 Data Center topping out marks another step in strengthening digital infrastructure capacity while supporting economic growth and technological innovation in the region.
