ACCIONA has signed a public-private partnership (PPP) contract with the Paraíba Water and Sewerage Company (Cagepa) to provide sanitary sewerage services across 85 municipalities in Paraíba, Brazil.
The 25-year project will expand access to sanitation services and support the development of essential infrastructure across the state.
€498 Million Investment to Expand Sanitation
The project involves an estimated investment of €498 million. It will provide access to basic sanitation services for more than 1.7 million people across the Litoral and Alto Piranhas regions.
The Litoral region includes the state capital, João Pessoa, while the Alto Piranhas region includes Cajazeiras.
As part of the project, ACCIONA will construct 104 wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs). The company will also install approximately 2,800 kilometres of sewerage collection networks.
Under the concession agreement, ACCIONA will manage the expansion, operation and maintenance of the sewerage system. Meanwhile, Cagepa will continue to manage water supply and customer service.
ACCIONA Expands Brazilian Infrastructure Portfolio
The new sanitation contract strengthens ACCIONA’s presence in Brazil, where the company has operated for almost three decades.
The company already delivers water and sewerage projects across several Brazilian states. Its portfolio includes contracts covering 48 municipalities in Paraná, eight in Espírito Santo and 153 municipalities in Pernambuco, as well as the district of Fernando de Noronha.
The latest project further expands ACCIONA’s role in Brazil’s sanitation infrastructure sector.
Major Infrastructure Projects in Brazil
ACCIONA is also leading the construction of São Paulo Metro Line 6-Orange, one of Latin America’s major infrastructure projects. The project has more than R$19 billion in committed investment.
In addition, the company has delivered major projects including Terminal 2 at the Port of Açu in Rio de Janeiro.
ACCIONA also transformed the historic Júlio Prestes Station in São Paulo into a concert hall.
The Paraíba sanitation project adds another major infrastructure investment to ACCIONA’s growing portfolio in Brazil.
