Fluor Joint Venture Celebrates Opening of Oak Hill Parkway in Austin, Texas
The $677 million project improves mobility, safety and connectivity along a major transportation corridor in southwest Austin.
Fluor Corporation and its joint venture partner, Balfour Beatty, joined the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), local officials and community stakeholders to celebrate the opening of the Oak Hill Parkway project in southwest Austin, Texas. The milestone marks the delivery of a major transportation improvement project designed to improve mobility, safety and connectivity along one of the region’s busiest corridors.
$677 Million Transportation Project
The $677 million Oak Hill Parkway project forms part of TxDOT’s Clear Lanes initiative. The project reconstructed and widened approximately seven miles of U.S. 290 and SH 71 through Oak Hill.
The upgraded corridor now provides three main lanes in each direction. Oak Hill also serves as an important gateway between Austin and the rapidly growing communities west of the city.
Since construction began in 2021, the project has delivered several improvements aimed at reducing congestion and improving regional connectivity.
Upgrading Austin’s Road Network
The project includes several major transportation improvements. These include direct-connect flyovers between U.S. 290 and SH 71, along with new U.S. 290 overpasses at William Cannon Drive.
In addition, the project replaced the former Y-interchange with a more efficient single-point urban interchange. New frontage roads also improve access throughout the corridor.
The project also includes bicycle and pedestrian facilities, including shared-use paths. As a result, the upgraded corridor provides improved transportation options for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians.

Oak Hill Parkway Opens to Traffic
The improved roadway system is now fully open to traffic, providing immediate benefits to motorists and the surrounding community.
However, some final activities remain. Crews will continue landscaping, paving and striping work, with final project completion expected by the end of 2026.
The Oak Hill Parkway project represents a major investment in Austin’s transportation infrastructure. By expanding roadway capacity and adding new connections for pedestrians and cyclists, the project supports mobility across southwest Austin and surrounding communities.
