SENNEBOGEN and DEUTZ: A Strong Partnership in Drive Technology

SENNEBOGEN and DEUTZ: A Strong Partnership in Drive Technology

Since the 1950s, SENNEBOGEN Maschinenfabrik GmbH and DEUTZ AG, two renowned German manufacturers, have been working together in drive technology for construction machinery and material handlers. Now, they are expanding their cooperation to maximize synergies between their expertise.

A Legacy of Innovation and Expertise

SENNEBOGEN: Engineering Excellence for 73 Years

As a family-run company, SENNEBOGEN has been a leader in the construction and material handling industries for over 73 years. Based in Lower Bavaria, the company offers a wide range of solutions, including:

  • Material handlers
  • Telescopic handlers
  • Cranes
  • Duty cycle crawler cranes (up to 420 tons)

DEUTZ: 161 Years of Powertrain Innovation

With 161 years of tradition, DEUTZ AG is a global leader in innovative drive systems. Headquartered in Cologne, DEUTZ specializes in off-highway applications with power outputs up to 620 kW, focusing on:

  • High-efficiency, low-emission diesel engines
  • Hydrogen-powered engines
  • Electrification technologies

A Partnership Rooted in History

Collaboration Since the 1950s

The partnership began in the 1950s when Erich Sennebogen recognized the strategic fit between SENNEBOGEN machines and DEUTZ engines. Early milestones included:

  • S802 & S803 duty cycle crawler cranes (1961) – Powered by a 22 HP Deutz 2-cylinder diesel engine
  • SH40 hydraulic excavator – Equipped with a 49 HP air-cooled Deutz 4-cylinder diesel engine

Many of these historic machines are still on display at the Erich Sennebogen Museum in Straubing. Over the years, SENNEBOGEN integrated DEUTZ engines into a wide range of cranes, duty cycle cranes, and hydraulic excavators, delivering them to customers worldwide.

Strengthening Cooperation for a Sustainable Future

Efficiency & Sustainability at the Core

SENNEBOGEN has long invested in sustainable technologies, including:

  • Green Hybrid energy recovery system – Reducing fuel consumption for over 12 years
  • Electric drive solutions – In use for 30+ years

Expanding the Partnership

The two companies are now intensifying their cooperation, focusing on:

  • DEUTZ diesel engines for select SENNEBOGEN models
  • Global service support through DEUTZ’s worldwide network
  • Alternative drive technologies, including:
    • Battery-electric solutions
    • Hydrogen-based powertrains

Leadership Perspectives

“We see many positive synergies in more intensive cooperation. Especially in off-highway applications, we can realize new, future-oriented solutions together.”
Erich Sennebogen, Managing Partner, SENNEBOGEN

“It’s great to see a historic partnership being revived while embracing future technologies.”
Thales Maia, CEO DEUTZ EMEA

DEUTZ Germany will oversee project execution, ensuring that both companies remain at the forefront of sustainable drive technology.
