Liebherr-Aerospace Embraces AI to Drive Innovation, Efficiency, and Sustainability

Toulouse, FranceLiebherr-Aerospace & Transportation SAS is taking bold steps into the future by fully embracing the transformative power of Artificial Intelligence (AI). With applications ranging from industrial planning to predictive maintenance, AI is now central to Liebherr’s strategy to enhance operational excellence and deliver greater value to its customers.

Nicolas Canouet, Head of the DataLab Center of Excellence and AI Coordinator at Liebherr-Aerospace, shares how AI is reshaping the company and the wider aviation industry. According to Canouet, AI is indispensable in overcoming the aerospace sector’s current challenges—increasing production rates, ensuring sustainability, and maintaining high performance.

We need to adapt to this business environment with agility to remain reliable and resilient,” says Canouet. “In this context, AI is an essential technology that enables us to address these challenges effectively.”

At Liebherr-Aerospace, AI is being harnessed across three key areas:

  • Operational Efficiency: AI is used for industrial planning, logistics optimization, and knowledge management. These tools help streamline operations, accelerate decision-making, and improve overall efficiency.
  • New Services: AI powers diagnostic support and predictive maintenance—allowing the early detection of maintenance needs or repairs. This approach not only enhances service quality but also reduces aircraft downtime, ensuring more reliable and cost-effective operations.
  • Product Innovation: The company is actively embedding AI into components and systems, paving the way for new functionalities and smarter technologies. Earlier efforts focused on AI applications directly tied to the product—such as embedded systems and tools to support design and maintenance. Now, the focus has expanded to integrating AI deep into internal processes.

Canouet highlights how AI is being utilized for purchasing strategy optimization and workflow planning in production. “We’re embedding AI at the heart of our operations,” he notes, “to enhance industrial performance and unlock new levels of innovation.”

As Liebherr-Aerospace continues to scale AI applications, customers can expect more intelligent, efficient, and sustainable solutions across the entire aerospace value chain.
