Mitsubishi Power, a brand of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI), reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to Saudi Arabia’s sustainable energy future during its participation as a Platinum Sponsor at the Saudi Aramco In-Kingdom Total Value Add (IKTVA) Forum 2025. Held under the patronage of HRH Prince Saud bin Nayef bin Abdulaziz Al Saud at the Dhahran Expo in Dammam, the event aligns with the ambitious objectives of Saudi Vision 2030 and the Kingdom’s pursuit of industrial localization and innovation.
This year, Mitsubishi Power has significantly expanded its footprint in Saudi Arabia, notably with the order for its M501JAC combined-cycle hydrogen-ready gas turbines to power a 475 MW industrial steam and electricity plant at the SATORP petrochemical complex in Jubail. This plant, housing one of the largest mixed-load steam crackers in the Gulf, represents a cornerstone in Saudi Arabia’s efforts to become a global sustainable energy hub.
Local Innovation and Talent Development
In line with Saudi Arabia’s emphasis on localization, Mitsubishi Power will assemble its cutting-edge heavy-duty gas turbines, recognized globally for their 64%+ efficiency rate, at its Dammam facility. These turbines are designed for hydrogen blending, supporting a stable and low-carbon power supply to drive the Kingdom’s industrial and sustainability objectives.
Adel Al-Juraid, CEO of Mitsubishi Power Saudi Arabia, emphasized the company’s dual focus on sustainability and talent development:
“Our legacy in Saudi Arabia spans over six decades, and we are proud to harness the skills of young Saudi talent—both male and female—to lead the Kingdom’s energy industry into the future. By localizing our gas turbine assembly operations, we take another step toward realizing Saudi Vision 2030 while meeting the Kingdom’s growing power demands sustainably.”
Currently, over 50% of Mitsubishi Power’s workforce in Saudi Arabia are Saudi nationals, trained through on-the-job programs and knowledge exchanges with Japanese experts, preparing them for leadership roles in the energy sector.
Innovations Aligned with Vision 2030
At Booth P108 in the IKTVA Forum, Mitsubishi Power showcased innovations aligned with Saudi Vision 2030 and the Saudi Green Initiative, including:
- Hydrogen-fueled gas turbines, supporting cleaner energy transitions.
- Digital solutions for efficiency optimization and emissions reduction.
- Strategies to meet the rising energy demands of AI, data centers, and advanced manufacturing.
These advancements contribute to the Circular Carbon Economy goal of achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions, while also supporting critical industries like water desalination and manufacturing.
Legacy of Collaboration
Mitsubishi Power’s history with Saudi Arabia dates back to the 1960s, beginning with the supply of boilers to Aramco in Abqaiq. Over the years, the company has partnered with key stakeholders like the Ministry of Energy, Saudi Aramco, and the Saudi Electricity Company, delivering transformative energy solutions and driving industrial growth.
As Saudi Arabia accelerates toward a sustainable and self-reliant energy future, Mitsubishi Power remains a steadfast partner, leveraging its Japanese engineering expertise, cutting-edge technology, and strong local partnerships to power the Kingdom’s bold vision.
