Skanska Secures $116M Contract for University of Virginia Biotechnology Facility

Charlottesville, VA — Skanska has signed an additional USD 116 million (about SEK 1.2 billion) contract with the University of Virginia to continue construction of the Paul and Diane Manning Institute of Biotechnology at Fontaine Research Park. The new agreement will be recorded in Skanska’s U.S. order bookings for the third quarter of 2025.

When completed, the five-story, 33,000-square-meter (354,000-square-foot) facility will become a state-of-the-art hub for translational research, the first of its kind in the Commonwealth of Virginia. The Institute is designed with modular laboratory and support spaces, expanded research areas, and core facilities to host 100–150 researchers alongside biotechnology companies, creating a collaborative environment at the cutting edge of science and technology.

Construction on the project began in December 2023 and is expected to be completed by the fourth quarter of 2027. Skanska’s continued involvement underscores its commitment to advancing biomedical innovation and research infrastructure in the U.S.
