Skanska Wins Contract to Build Underground Metro Station in Oslo for NOK 1.7 Billion

Oslo, Norway – In a significant step for Oslo’s public transportation infrastructure, Skanska has secured a NOK 1.7 billion (approx. SEK 1.6 billion) contract to construct the new Skøyen underground metro station, commissioned by Fornebubanen. The project will be included in Skanska’s Nordic order bookings for Q2 2025, with construction scheduled to begin in September 2025 and completion targeted for 2029.

A Key Transit Node Transformed

Located in one of Oslo’s busiest transport hubs, the new Skøyen metro station will substantially improve integration between subway, train, and bus networks, enhancing urban mobility and capacity in the Norwegian capital.

The project includes:

  • Construction of a station hall approximately 45 meters underground
  • Two metro tracks
  • Dual access points on either side of Hoffsveien
  • Extensive concrete work, technical installations, elevators, and escalators
  • Outdoor landscaping and access buildings
  • Integration and completion works in pre-excavated tunnels
  • Additional supporting infrastructure at Madserud, Bestum, and along the Majorstuen tunnel section

Focus on Sustainability and Efficiency

As part of Skanska’s commitment to low-carbon construction, the project will be delivered with a strong emphasis on energy efficiency and climate impact reduction. This aligns with Oslo’s broader goals to develop sustainable urban infrastructure and promote green public transportation.

“This project is another example of how we contribute to shaping sustainable cities through modern infrastructure,” a Skanska representative stated. “The Skøyen station will not only improve transit efficiency but also support the environmental goals of the city of Oslo.”

A Catalyst for Urban Development

Once completed, the Skøyen station will serve as a vital link within Fornebubanen, the new metro line connecting the rapidly developing Fornebu area with central Oslo. This transformation is expected to be a catalyst for local economic growth, housing development, and improved accessibility for thousands of commuters daily.
