Turner Construction and Weill Cornell Medicine Celebrate Opening of $260 Million Sustainable Student Housing on Manhattan’s Upper East Side

Turner Construction Company and Weill Cornell Medicine officially opened the Feil Family and Weill Family Residence Hall, a $260 million, 16-story student residence hall that delivers modern, sustainable housing in the heart of Manhattan’s Upper East Side. The 173,000-square-foot facility will house 272 medical and graduate students, marking a major milestone in expanding student housing near New York City’s leading academic medical center.

“This project reflects our shared vision for creating spaces that are sustainable, supportive, and purposefully designed to meet the needs of the next generation of healthcare leaders,” said Christopher Zegler, Vice President, Turner Construction Company.

“This new student residence was thoughtfully created to enhance connections within the student community and to provide a respite for our students,” added Emil Martone, Director of Design and Construction, Weill Cornell Medicine.

Sustainable and Wellness-Focused Student Housing in NYC

The Feil Family and Weill Family Residence Hall is an all-electric, LEED Gold-targeted building that incorporates air-cooled air source heat pumps, significantly reducing carbon emissions and aligning with New York City’s climate goals. Designed with wellness at its core, the building features:

  • Shared lounges, study areas, and social hubs to encourage collaboration and community.
  • Fitness and wellness facilities that prioritize student health.
  • Sustainable architecture that combines functionality with environmental responsibility.

Transforming the Student Experience

Located just steps from Weill Cornell Medicine’s clinical, research, and education buildings, the residence hall strengthens connections between students’ academic and personal lives. By providing affordable, sustainable student housing in Manhattan, the project sets a new benchmark for student housing in New York City.
