Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) has completed its acquisition of Swecon from Lantmännen, following regulatory approval from the European Commission.
The transaction, first announced in June 2025, was finalized on January 31, 2026, officially integrating Swecon into Volvo CE’s operations.
Scope of the Acquisition
The Volvo CE acquires Swecon deal covers the full scope of Swecon’s business activities, including:
- Sales of construction equipment and services
- Rental operations
- Aftermarket services and customer support
- Offices and workshop facilities
- Approximately 1,400 employees
Swecon operates across Sweden, Germany, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, and the transaction also includes Entrack, a supplier of undercarriage and wear parts solutions.
Strategic Rationale
Volvo CE views the acquisition as a strategic step to strengthen its retail footprint in key European markets and make retail operations a core component of its long-term growth strategy.
Melker Jernberg, Head of Volvo CE, stated that the integration will enhance the company’s ability to support customers transitioning toward more sustainable and productive construction solutions.
By bringing Swecon fully in-house, Volvo CE aims to:
- Increase direct customer engagement
- Enhance service quality and aftermarket capabilities
- Drive closer alignment between product innovation and retail execution
Leadership Transition
As part of the transition:
- Tomas Börjesson, Head of Swecon, has decided to retire.
- Tomas Kuta has been appointed as the new Head of Swecon, effective March 1, 2026.
Kuta previously served as Head of Volvo CE Sales Asia and brings extensive experience within the organization.
Market Impact
The Volvo CE acquires Swecon transaction signals a broader trend among original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to strengthen control over retail distribution networks.
By integrating dealer operations directly, Volvo CE is positioning itself to improve operational efficiency, accelerate digitalization initiatives, and support customers’ sustainability objectives across Northern and Central Europe.
With the deal now complete, Swecon becomes a fully integrated business unit within Volvo CE, reinforcing the company’s long-term European growth strategy.
