John Deere SmartDetect Assist Enhances Jobsite Safety

John Deere SmartDetect Assist Enhances Jobsite Safety

John Deere has introduced SmartDetect™ Assist, its latest object detection technology designed to enhance jobsite safety in construction environments. Building on the company’s existing SmartDetect™ and SmartDetect™ Digital platforms, the new system adds automated machine intervention capabilities that can slow or stop equipment when obstacles are detected.

The debut marks a significant step forward in proactive collision mitigation for compact construction equipment.

Building on a Proven Safety Platform

John Deere has continued investing in operator-assist technologies aimed at reducing jobsite incidents and increasing situational awareness.

  • SmartDetect™ uses cameras and machine learning to identify obstacles, delivering real-time visual and audible alerts to operators.
  • SmartDetect™ Digital integrates near-miss video footage and safety insights into the John Deere Operations Center, supporting training, incident analysis and safety management.

SmartDetect™ Assist expands this foundation by adding active intervention capabilities.

How SmartDetect™ Assist Works

The system combines:

  • High-resolution cameras
  • Radar sensors
  • In-cab display interface

When an obstacle is detected, SmartDetect Assist provides immediate visual and audible alerts both inside and outside the machine. If necessary, it automatically slows or stops the machine before a potential collision.

While the technology enhances safety, John Deere emphasizes that it does not replace operator responsibility. Instead, it serves as an added safeguard to support uptime and reduce risk.

Key Features

  • Dynamic slowing or stopping prior to impact
  • Configurable operating parameters
  • Operator-controlled momentary override
  • Projected reverse path lines on the in-cab display to improve directional awareness

The projected reverse path guidance gives operators a clearer visual reference of the machine’s trajectory, particularly useful in tight or congested jobsite conditions.

Availability

SmartDetect™ Assist is currently available as an optional feature on select John Deere Utility Loaders.

Strengthening Jobsite Safety

With SmartDetect Assist, John Deere reinforces its commitment to developing intelligent systems that enhance operator confidence, improve awareness and contribute to safer jobsite operations.
