Arcadis Secures Strategic Contracts with Sabesp to Enhance Water Infrastructure for 28 Million People in São Paulo

Arcadis, a global leader in sustainable design and consultancy solutions, has been awarded two major contracts by Sabesp, one of the world’s largest water and waste management companies. The projects will significantly enhance the water infrastructure and sanitation systems across 375 municipalities in São Paulo, directly benefiting more than 28 million residents.

With its global expertise and proprietary digital asset management tools, Arcadis will support:

  • The expansion of the Barueri Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP)—Brazil’s largest such facility, currently serving 10 million people
  • Strategic consultancy for the Universal Water Supply and Sewerage Program, a government-led initiative set to channel over R$70 billion in infrastructure investment across underserved communities

“This is about much more than pipes and plants—it’s about improving lives, protecting public health, and securing sustainable growth for future generations,” said Alan Brookes, CEO of Arcadis. “Our partnership with Sabesp reflects our commitment to resilient, tech-enabled water solutions that serve people and the planet.”

Digital Tools Powering Smarter Water Management

At the heart of the project is Arcadis’ Enterprise Decision Analytics (EDA) platform, which leverages data science and AI to:

  • Optimize investment planning and resource allocation
  • Improve project execution timelines
  • Identify risk factors and enhance decision-making accuracy
  • Deliver long-term value for communities and stakeholders

A Resilient Future for São Paulo’s Water Systems

The Barueri WWTP expansion will boost treatment capacity and improve operational efficiency, supporting the region’s fast-growing population and reducing environmental impact. This milestone project further cements Arcadis’ leadership in global water and wastewater infrastructure, following successful programs across Europe, the Middle East, and North America.

Project Highlights:

  • Client: Companhia de Saneamento Básico do Estado de São Paulo (Sabesp)
  • Service Areas: Wastewater treatment, strategic asset management, digital transformation
  • Technology: Arcadis Enterprise Decision Analytics (EDA)
  • Communities Impacted: Over 28 million people in São Paulo state
  • Project Start: 2025
