Liebherr-Aerospace Lindenberg Expansion Plans Unveiled

Liebherr-Aerospace Lindenberg Expansion Plans Unveiled

Liebherr-Aerospace is planning a significant expansion of its facility in Lindenberg im Allgäu, Germany to support the growing demand in the global aviation sector. The project, scheduled to begin in 2026, will increase production capacity and strengthen the company’s assembly and customer service operations.

The expansion reflects the company’s response to the upward trend in aircraft production and aviation maintenance services worldwide.

Expansion to add assembly and service space

The development plan includes the addition of approximately 6,000 square meters of new space dedicated to product assembly and customer service activities.

To make room for the extension, the oldest administration building on the site will be demolished. The project will also include upgrades to employee facilities, including an expanded staff restaurant.

This expansion aims to improve the company’s ability to handle increasing workloads related to both aircraft manufacturing and maintenance services.

New office complex planned

As part of the development, Liebherr-Aerospace will construct a new office building of around 10,000 square meters.

The new complex is designed to provide flexible workspace that can accommodate future growth and evolving operational needs.

The buildings will incorporate modern environmental features, including:

  • Heat recovery systems for energy-efficient heating
  • Green roofs
  • Photovoltaic solar installations

According to Martin Wandel, Managing Director and COO of Liebherr-Aerospace & Transportation SAS, the project reflects the company’s commitment to more environmentally sustainable aviation production.

Airbus A350 fleet driving MRO demand

The expansion is also linked to increasing demand for maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) services across the aviation industry.

A key driver is the growing global fleet of the Airbus A350, for which Liebherr-Aerospace supplies critical components.

At the Lindenberg facility, the company develops and manufactures:

  • The slat actuation system
  • The nose landing gear, the largest landing gear produced at the site

As the number of A350 aircraft in service rises, demand for maintenance and servicing of these systems is expected to increase significantly in the coming years.

Recruitment plans to support growth

Alongside the physical expansion, the company is also planning to expand its workforce.

Liebherr-Aerospace Lindenberg GmbH currently has around 270 job openings, particularly in:

  • Production and assembly
  • Engineering roles
  • Customer service and maintenance operations

According to managing director Philipp Walter, the Lindenberg site has been a core hub for aerospace and transportation technology for more than 65 years, and the company aims to further strengthen its presence in the region.

Supporting aviation industry growth

With aircraft demand rising globally and airlines expanding fleets, aerospace suppliers are increasing capacity to support both manufacturing and lifecycle maintenance services.

The Liebherr-Aerospace Lindenberg expansion is expected to help the company meet the growing needs of aircraft manufacturers and airlines while reinforcing its role in the global aerospace supply chain.
