Grupo Modesto Expands Fleet with Two New Liebherr Mobile Cranes in the Dominican Republic

Pioneer in the region invests in LTM 1150-5.3 and LTM 1230-5.1 to meet growing industrial demand.

In a landmark move for the Dominican crane industry, Grupo Modesto, S.A. has taken delivery of two brand-new Liebherr mobile cranes—the LTM 1150-5.3 and LTM 1230-5.1—marking a significant step in modernizing crane operations in the region. These state-of-the-art machines will support industrial construction projects across the Santo Domingo metropolitan area.

As one of the first crane hire companies in the Dominican Republic to invest in new Liebherr cranes, Grupo Modesto is setting a new benchmark for performance, safety, and technology in the Caribbean market.

“Our country has experienced strong economic growth, and demand for cranes in the 150 to 230-tonne range is rising rapidly,” said José Roberto Modesto, Vice President of Grupo Modesto. “These new Liebherr cranes are versatile, powerful, and built for modern industrial projects.”

Innovation and Support Drive the Decision

The two mobile cranes were selected for their long telescopic booms, innovative features, and strong lifting capacities, making them ideal for both tight construction sites and high-reach tasks. Each unit was ordered with comprehensive equipment, including dual winches for two-hook operation, VarioBase®, and VarioBallast®, enabling efficient, safe setup even in confined urban environments.

“We chose Liebherr not only for their product innovation but also because of their outstanding customer service. From day one, the focus has been on our needs and success,” Modesto added.

Successfully Deployed in First Project

Shortly after commissioning, both cranes were put to work at the Port of Santo Domingo, assisting in the dismantling of an aging harbor crane. The LTM 1150-5.3, outfitted with 29 tonnes of ballast, lifted a work basket carrying personnel who detached sections of the old crane. The LTM 1230-5.1, set up with 42 tonnes of ballast, carefully lowered the components—some weighing up to 6 tonnes—from a height of 75 meters. The project was completed over eight days, with safety and precision as top priorities.
