Turner and Its Foundation Launch $5 Million Mental Health Investment, Expanding Industry Leadership in Well-being

Turner Construction Company, in partnership with the Turner Foundation, has announced a $5 million investment over five years to advance mental health and emotional well-being across the company and the broader construction industry. This bold initiative signals Turner’s ongoing commitment to redefining jobsite safety to include mental and emotional health alongside physical protection.

The announcement coincides with Turner’s largest Safety Week to date, where more than 1,000 project sites across the country are engaging teams in open, honest conversations about mental wellness—a historic step forward in creating a culture of care, trust, and connection.

“Mental health matters because it affects every one of us—our families, our teams, our communities,” said Peter Davoren, Chairman and CEO of Turner Construction Company. “We are building a workplace where people can be their authentic selves, feel respected, and know they are supported.”

Transforming Industry Culture

As labor demands rise and the U.S. construction workforce exceeds eight million people, Turner is stepping up with urgency, compassion, and leadership to meet the moment. For decades, the industry has silently endured stigma around emotional health. Turner is challenging that narrative—one conversation, one jobsite, one life at a time.

This five-year mental health strategy focuses on:

  • Raising awareness of mental health and wellness resources
  • Reducing stigma around seeking help
  • Equipping teams with tools and knowledge to support themselves and others
  • Embedding care into jobsite culture

At the heart of the initiative is a message of active caring—encouraging teams to check in, speak up, and support one another, reshaping what strength looks like on site.

Empowering People, Enhancing Safety

Turner’s plan includes expanding its internal mental health awareness programs, increasing resource visibility, and engaging its 13,000 employees and over 110,000 daily site visitors with vital support information. Safety Week will feature events, training, and wellness-focused engagements that invite every person on site to participate in building a culture of psychological safety.

This commitment has already earned national recognition: Turner was recently named one of America’s Greatest Workplaces for Mental Well-being by Newsweek, following a rigorous review of over 403,000 employee interviews and 4.9 million company reviews.

A Movement, Not Just a Moment

This investment is not a one-time campaign—it is a long-term movement to transform the emotional safety landscape of the construction industry.

“The construction industry has always valued grit and resilience. Now, we’re redefining those values to include openness, empathy, and emotional wellness,” said Turner leadership in a statement. “Because real strength comes from standing together—not staying silent.”

By embedding mental health into its core culture, Turner and the Turner Foundation are helping to shape an industry where every individual goes home not just physically safe, but mentally well—and where care is as foundational as concrete.
