Sandvik Acquires ThoroughTec Simulation for Mining

Acquisition strengthens digital training and aftermarket capabilities in global mining sector

Sandvik has signed an agreement to acquire ThoroughTec Simulation, a Durban-based provider of advanced equipment simulators and simulator-based training solutions for the global mining industry.

The transaction will see ThoroughTec integrated into Sandvik’s Parts and Services division within its Mining business area. The deal is expected to close in the second quarter of 2026, subject to customary regulatory approvals.


Expanding Digital Training Capabilities

ThoroughTec develops OEM-agnostic training simulators and provides a training management system designed to help mining companies:

  • Improve operator safety
  • Increase productivity
  • Reduce equipment maintenance costs

By combining ThoroughTec’s simulator technologies with Sandvik’s digital mining solutions, the companies aim to deliver data-driven, customized operator training programs based on real machine performance insights.

Sandvik President and CEO Stefan Widing said the acquisition strengthens the company’s aftermarket offering and enhances customer support through advanced training technologies.


Financial and Strategic Impact

ThoroughTec employs more than 200 people and operates a broad global sales and support network. In 2025, the company generated approximately SEK 170 million in revenue, with a strong EBITA margin.

Sandvik stated that the acquisition is expected to have an accretive impact on its EBITA margin. The purchase price has not been disclosed.


Strengthening Mining Digitalization

The Sandvik acquires ThoroughTec Simulation deal reflects continued consolidation in the mining technology sector, as equipment manufacturers invest in digital solutions that improve operational efficiency and workforce development.

With mining companies increasingly prioritizing automation, safety and cost optimization, advanced simulator-based training is becoming a critical component of modern mine operations.

The acquisition positions Sandvik to further integrate digital performance data with operator training, supporting safer and more productive mining environments worldwide.
