A59 Kex Gill Highway Realignment: Project Overview

How John Sisk & Son Maps a Three-Mile Highway Realignment in North Yorkshire

The A59 Kex Gill highway realignment is no ordinary construction project. John Sisk & Son is replacing a failing section of highway across remote terrain in North Yorkshire, England, at elevations of around 300 meters.

The project stretches several miles across challenging terrain, making regular site inspections difficult. To help monitor progress, Simon Wise and his team use drones to create detailed aerial maps of the site.

The drone surveys allow the project team and client to track progress across key activities, including groundworks, tarmacking and tree planting. Because the site is long and weather conditions can change quickly, the team carries out flights in stages.

Wise uses DroneDeploy as part of his daily workflow. The platform allows the team to check measurements and site information remotely, reducing the need for smaller physical site visits.

According to Wise, the technology can provide the required information within seconds, helping the team make faster decisions and monitor construction progress more efficiently.

The A59 Kex Gill highway realignment demonstrates how drone mapping and digital construction tools can improve project visibility, particularly on large linear infrastructure projects in remote and challenging environments.
