ACCIONA has secured a major sanitation contract in northeastern Brazil after the Paraíba Water and Sewerage Company selected the company to provide water and sewerage services across 85 municipalities in the Paraíba region.
The public-private partnership contract will run through 2039 and support an estimated population of 1.7 million people. In addition, the project includes planned investments totaling approximately €724 million.
Project Covers 85 Municipalities in Paraíba
Under the agreement, ACCIONA will operate and maintain the sanitary sewer system in the Abragencia area.
The contract covers 37 municipalities in the Alto Piranhas microregion as well as 48 municipalities in the coastal microregion.
Furthermore, the project forms part of Brazil’s National Basic Sanitation Plan, which aims to expand universal access to sanitation services across the country.
Consequently, the initiative supports Brazil’s broader efforts to improve water infrastructure, wastewater treatment and public health standards.
Brazil Remains a Strategic Market for ACCIONA
Brazil continues to represent a major strategic market for ACCIONA.
The company has operated in the country for nearly 30 years and has delivered infrastructure projects across multiple Brazilian states.
In addition to sanitation projects, ACCIONA is currently developing Line 6 of the São Paulo subway, one of the largest infrastructure projects in Latin America. The project carries a committed investment of more than R$19 billion, equivalent to approximately €1.97 billion.
The company has also completed several major infrastructure developments in Brazil, including Terminal 2 at the Port of Açu in Rio de Janeiro and the transformation of São Paulo’s historic Júlio Prestes Station into a major concert venue.
ACCIONA Expands Infrastructure Presence Across Brazil
Recently, the São Paulo City Council also awarded ACCIONA a contract to construct a strategic road connection between Avenida Jornalista Roberto Marinho and Rodovia dos Imigrantes.
The route serves as one of Brazil’s key logistics corridors and strengthens connectivity between São Paulo and the country’s coastal region.
Meanwhile, the new Paraíba sanitation agreement expands ACCIONA’s growing water infrastructure portfolio in Brazil.
The contract adds to the company’s existing sanitation agreements with Sanepar in Paraná and Cesan in Espírito Santo. In addition, ACCIONA recently secured an integrated water cycle contract with the government of Pernambuco.
As Brazil continues investing in infrastructure modernization and sanitation expansion, ACCIONA is positioning itself as a major long-term player in the country’s water and public infrastructure sectors.
