Adolfson & Peterson Construction (AP) has officially begun construction on the Round Rock Public Safety Training Center Enhancement Phase 2 Project, an expansion initiative designed to strengthen training capabilities for the City of Round Rock’s fire and police departments.

The project, located at 2801 N. Mays St., expands the existing Round Rock Public Safety Training Center and is scheduled for completion in early 2027. The development supports the city’s long-term investment in public safety infrastructure following voter approval in a 2023 bond election.

Project Scope and Facilities

The expansion includes:

  • A 6,602-square-foot addition to the main administration building, adding more than 6,000 square feet of meeting and training space, along with expanded accommodations for fire training personnel.
  • A new 4,700-square-foot standalone classroom building featuring two classrooms, restrooms, storage areas, and a kitchenette.
  • Dedicated police and fire equipment storage facilities.
  • An emergency vehicle operations course and heavy-duty skills pad area.
  • An observation tower for training oversight.
  • Installation of a backup emergency generator.
  • An additional skills pad for fire department extrication exercises.

Eric Churchill, Vice President of Central Texas at Adolfson & Peterson Construction, emphasized the importance of the expansion for the city’s emergency services. He noted that the project will provide enhanced educational and hands-on training opportunities to strengthen the preparedness and effectiveness of Round Rock’s first responders.

Building on an Established Facility

The training center originally opened in 2018 and serves both fire and police departments. Existing features include classrooms, an indoor tactical firing range, a defensive tactics area, scenario-based training structures — including a five-story burn tower — outdoor skills pads, and specialized props such as a fuel-spill training site.

The original architect, Brinkley Sargent Wiginton Architects, designed the Phase 2 expansion to maintain continuity with the facility’s established infrastructure.

Broader Regional Activity

AP’s Central Texas office has recently broken ground on two Austin ISD high schools and the Heritage Oaks Dental Office in Marble Falls. The company also completed the expansion of the emergency room at Methodist Landmark Hospital in San Antonio and the Sunrise Commerce Center project in Round Rock.

Across Texas, Adolfson & Peterson Construction has delivered multiple municipal and commercial projects, including the East Dallas Government Center for Dallas County, Rockwall County Jail, the Garland Audubon Recreation Center, and the Stephen G. Terrell Recreation Center in Allen.

In the Dallas–Fort Worth market, the firm is currently constructing the new KDFW studio and office facility and Phase Two of the Santander Tower conversion in downtown Dallas.
