Develon and Leica Geosystems Add 3D Machine Control to All 9 Series Excavators

Heerbrugg, Switzerland -Develon and Leica Geosystems, part of Hexagon, have expanded their collaboration by making the Leica MC1 3D machine control system available as an aftermarket kit for all Develon 9 Series Crawler Excavators. This move aims to accelerate the adoption of smart construction technologies by making 3D upgrades easier, faster, and more cost-effective for customers worldwide.

Seamless Integration with Existing Systems

The advanced 3D solution is engineered to work smoothly with Develon’s existing 2D sensors and calibration systems, enabling operators to transition from 2D to 3D with minimal effort. This compatibility is made possible through the Series 9 excavators’ open control architecture, which supports real-time communication between internal sensors and Leica’s 3D machine control technologies.

Smart Features for Construction Efficiency

With the new 3D integration, operators can now combine precision automation from Leica MC1 with Develon’s existing intelligent systems, including:

  • Virtual Wall – to define safe operating zones
  • Weighing System – real-time load measurement
  • Advanced Lift Assist – enhanced lifting stability and safety

This combination creates a smarter, more connected excavator ecosystem, helping operators improve accuracy and productivity across construction sites.

Industry Voices

“Expanding the Leica MC1 3D solution to all 9 Series excavators shows our commitment to innovation and customer satisfaction,” said Stephane Dieu, Product Manager at Develon Europe.

“This partnership blends Develon’s reliable 2D technologies with Leica’s advanced 3D system. The result is a faster installation, simpler calibration, and smarter operation for customers,” added Neil Williams, President of the Machine Control Division at Leica Geosystems.

Easy Upgrade Path

Upgrading to 3D technology is now straightforward—customers simply install the aftermarket Leica MC1 kit, and the Series 9 controller automatically manages communication between internal and external systems. This reduces installation time and keeps operating costs under control.
