Ferrovial Wins Major Nashville Infrastructure Project
Ferrovial has been selected to deliver Tennessee’s I-24 Southeast Choice Lanes project in the Nashville region.
The project represents the largest single capital investment and the first public-private partnership in Tennessee’s history. It will expand transportation capacity along one of the region’s busiest corridors.
Ferrovial CEO Ignacio Madridejos said the company is honored to deliver the landmark project. He also highlighted its potential to improve mobility and support Tennessee’s continued economic growth.
I-24 Project Will Add 26 Miles of Choice Lanes
The I-24 Southeast Choice Lanes project will add choice lanes in both directions along a 26-mile section of Interstate 24.
The corridor extends from I-40 east of downtown Nashville to I-840 near Murfreesboro.
The project will target congestion along one of the Nashville region’s most heavily traveled routes. Drivers who use the choice lanes will have access to more consistent travel speeds during peak periods.
At the same time, the project expects to reduce congestion in the existing free general-purpose lanes.
$9.2 Billion Project Uses Public-Private Partnership
A Ferrovial-led consortium called DriveTN will finance, design, build, operate and maintain the project.
DriveTN includes Ferrovial, Transurban and Tikehau Star Infra.
The project carries an estimated value of $9.2 billion. It is also expected to provide approximately $24.8 billion in concession value to the state of Tennessee.
The public-private partnership model will combine private investment and infrastructure expertise to deliver the major transportation upgrade.
Choice Lanes Aim to Improve Travel Reliability
The I-24 Southeast Choice Lanes will give motorists another option for navigating the Nashville-Murfreesboro corridor.
Drivers who choose the managed lanes will benefit from more predictable travel times and speeds. Meanwhile, motorists using the free lanes should also benefit from lower congestion.
The approach aims to provide a more reliable transportation solution as the Nashville region continues to grow.
Ferrovial Brings U.S. Express Lane Experience
Ferrovial has delivered similar transportation projects in several major U.S. metropolitan areas, including Dallas-Fort Worth, Charlotte and Washington, D.C.
The company points to Virginia’s I-66 Express Outside the Beltway corridor as an example of the model’s potential. The express lanes have reduced peak travel times by as much as 50% while providing more reliable trip conditions.
Ferrovial plans to apply that experience to the Tennessee project.
Infrastructure Investment Supports Nashville Growth
The I-24 Southeast Choice Lanes project comes as the Nashville region continues to expand.
Additional transportation capacity will help address future mobility needs while improving connectivity between Nashville and Murfreesboro.
By combining new choice lanes with improvements to the existing highway network, the project aims to deliver long-term mobility benefits.
The development also highlights the growing role of public-private partnerships in delivering large-scale transportation infrastructure across the United States.
