Gensler Prix de Versailles 2026: A Historic Nomination

Gensler has earned two nominations in the 2026 Prix de Versailles World Selection for Aviation. The firm’s projects at Pittsburgh International Airport and San Diego International Airport Terminal 1 have been shortlisted for one of the world’s most prestigious architecture awards.

Two Airport Projects Gain Global Recognition

The Prix de Versailles, announced each year at UNESCO headquarters in Paris, celebrates outstanding contemporary architecture. The award recognizes projects for innovation, sustainability, creativity, and respect for local heritage.

Notably, Gensler is the only architecture firm with two projects on this year’s Aviation shortlist.

Pittsburgh and San Diego Lead the Shortlist

The new terminal at Pittsburgh International Airport earned recognition for combining regional identity with operational innovation.

Meanwhile, Terminal 1 at San Diego International Airport impressed judges with its sustainable design. It also modernizes one of the busiest single-runway airports in the United States.

Together, these projects showcase Gensler’s expertise in creating efficient and passenger-focused airport facilities.

Building on Award-Winning Success

Last year, Gensler achieved another major milestone. Harvey Milk Terminal 1 at San Francisco International Airport won the 2025 Prix de Versailles World Title in Aviation, the competition’s highest honor.

Now, the firm’s two new nominations reinforce its leadership in airport architecture.

Designing Airports for Future Generations

According to Ty Osbaugh, Principal and Global Aviation Leader at Gensler, both projects redefine how airports connect cities with the world.

He explained that the Pittsburgh and San Diego terminals prepare airports for future growth. In addition, they create welcoming spaces that local communities can proudly embrace.

Driving Innovation in Airport Design

Overall, the dual nomination highlights Gensler’s continued commitment to aviation innovation. By combining sustainable design, operational efficiency, and local character, the firm continues to shape the next generation of airport infrastructure worldwide.
