HOCHTIEF London Power Grid Upgrade: Key Details

HOCHTIEF London Power Grid Upgrade: Key Details

HOCHTIEF Secures London Energy Infrastructure Contract

HOCHTIEF has secured a contract from National Grid as part of the North West London Upgrade program.

The project will modernize and expand the electricity transmission network across Greater London. The Hochtief-Murphy Joint Venture (HMJV) will deliver the work with its project partners.

The upgrade will increase electricity transmission capacity across northwest London. It will also support the region’s growing demand for reliable power.

Power Grid Upgrade to Support Data Centers

The project will help provide the electricity capacity needed to support economic growth, digitalisation and new data centers.

Greater London continues to face increasing demand for electricity from businesses and digital infrastructure. The upgraded network will help connect new developments while supporting reliable power supplies for homes and businesses.

HOCHTIEF Infrastructure CEO Peter Hingott said the expanded network will help enable new data centers and support the wider digital economy.

Project Includes 60 Kilometers of New Cables

The North West London Upgrade includes several major infrastructure improvements.

The project will involve:

  • Installing 60 kilometers of new cable infrastructure
  • Upgrading and expanding substations
  • Replacing overhead electricity lines
  • Carrying out extensive work on a major high-voltage cable tunnel

These improvements will strengthen the electricity transmission network and increase its capacity to support future demand.

HOCHTIEF Builds on London Power Tunnels Experience

The project builds on HOCHTIEF’s previous involvement in National Grid’s London Power Tunnels 2 program.

That experience strengthens the company’s position in London’s energy infrastructure market. It also supports HOCHTIEF’s wider focus on energy transmission and sustainable infrastructure.

The latest contract highlights the growing connection between power infrastructure and digital development. As data centers and other energy-intensive facilities expand, reliable electricity networks become increasingly important.

HOCHTIEF Strengthens Energy Infrastructure Portfolio

HOCHTIEF is a global infrastructure solutions provider with operations across North America, Australia and Europe.

The company has a strong presence in data centers, energy and sustainable infrastructure. HOCHTIEF reported sales of €38.2 billion in 2025 and employs around 62,000 people.

The group combines engineering expertise with digital systems, supply chain capabilities and infrastructure delivery experience.

The North West London Upgrade adds another major energy infrastructure project to HOCHTIEF’s portfolio and reinforces its role in supporting the UK’s evolving power network.
