Hochtief Prague Metro Line D €1.2bn Contract Overview

Prague, Czech Republic — A consortium comprising Hochtief, BeMo Tunnelling, and Subterra has secured a €1.2 billion contract to deliver a major section of the city’s Metro Line D.

Project Scope and Key Details

The project covers a 6 km հատված of the new metro line. Specifically, it includes:

  • Three new underground stations
  • Multiple tunnel sections

The contract was awarded by Prague Public Transport Company.
Out of the total value, Hochtief will receive approximately €428 million.

Strategic Importance for Prague

Importantly, Metro Line D will become Prague’s first fully automated metro line.
According to Hochtief CEO Juan Santamaría, the project will play a critical role in improving urban mobility.

Moreover, the new line aims to:

  • Increase transport capacity
  • Reduce congestion in the city
  • Enhance connectivity across key districts

Timeline and Previous Work

Construction will begin shortly, and the team plans to complete the project by 2032.
Meanwhile, an earlier phase between Pankrác and Olbrachtova stations remains under construction and is scheduled for completion in 2029.

Regulatory Clearance

Earlier this year, Strabag challenged the contract award.
However, the Czech Republic Office for the Protection of Competition dismissed those objections, allowing the project to proceed.

Outlook

Overall, the contract strengthens Hochtief’s presence in Central Europe’s transport infrastructure sector.
Looking ahead, Metro Line D will serve as a cornerstone project for sustainable and automated urban transit in Prague.
