John Deere Introduces New 40 P-Tier Compact Excavator
John Deere is set to unveil its new 40 P-Tier Compact Excavator at Equip Exposition, taking place October 20–23, 2026. The new model combines digging and hydraulic performance with an operating weight of less than 10,000 pounds, making it easier to transport between jobsites.
Designed for landscaping, rental, utility and general construction applications, the 40 P-Tier offers attachment flexibility and technology features aimed at helping crews improve productivity without requiring a commercial driver’s license for transportation.
Compact Design with Powerful Performance
The 40 P-Tier provides digging and lifting performance associated with larger machines while maintaining a compact design.
Customers can configure the excavator with several optional features, including a hydraulic pin-grabber coupler, rearview camera, factory-installed thumb, angle blade and auxiliary hydraulic packages.
These options allow contractors and fleet operators to configure the machine according to their most common applications.
New Mulching Head Expands Attachment Options
John Deere is also introducing the new ME28 Mulching Head for the 40 P-Tier Compact Excavator.
The attachment is designed for land-clearing applications such as maintaining rights-of-way, clearing fence lines and working in confined areas.
The ME28 features a variable-speed motor, durable rotor design and reversible Cubit knife-style teeth. These features are designed to support efficient material processing while extending wear life.
Attachment Manager Simplifies Operation
The 40 P-Tier comes standard with Attachment Manager technology. Operators can use the system to recall preset hydraulic settings for compatible attachments.
As a result, attachment changes can require less setup time while helping operators maintain consistent performance.
Technology and Operator Comfort
The 40 P-Tier brings several features from John Deere’s larger compact excavator models into a smaller machine.
The cab includes the John Deere CommandARM™, an 8-inch touchscreen display and an integrated electronic pattern changer. An optional premium Bluetooth radio and rearview camera are also available.
Standard JDLink™ connectivity provides fleet managers with machine location and health information through John Deere Operations Center™. This can help improve fleet visibility, equipment utilization and machine uptime.
The excavator also includes easily accessible daily service points. Available cab features include heating and air conditioning, premium seating and additional storage to improve operator comfort during extended shifts.
