Skanska to Upgrade Lærdal Tunnel in Norway for NOK 1.6 Billion
Skanska has secured a contract to upgrade the Lærdal Tunnel in Norway. The Norwegian Public Roads Administration awarded the NOK 1.6 billion project.
The value equals about SEK 1.5 billion. Skanska will include the contract in its Nordic order bookings for the third quarter of 2026.
Major Tunnel Upgrade
The Lærdal Tunnel stretches 24.5 kilometres through western Norway. It is the world’s longest road tunnel.
The tunnel forms a key transport link between eastern and western Norway. It also supports travel between Oslo and Bergen.
The Lærdal Tunnel upgrade will improve safety and reliability. It will also modernise key technical and safety systems.
Work While Traffic Continues
The project includes extensive rehabilitation work inside the tunnel. Skanska will also upgrade technical and safety installations.
Meanwhile, the tunnel will remain largely open to traffic during construction. Therefore, the project will require careful planning, traffic management and logistics.
Construction is scheduled to begin in November 2026. Skanska plans to complete the work in 2029.
The upgrade aims to support safer and more reliable traffic flows. It will also help maintain the tunnel’s role as an important transport corridor in Norway.
