Potain Power Solutions Improve Crane Performance

Manitowoc has introduced Potain Power Solutions, a new range of energy storage systems designed to support tower crane operations while reducing dependence on diesel generators and unreliable power grids.

The systems target customers across Asia-Pacific, the Middle East, India, Africa, Latin America and other emerging markets, where power infrastructure can present operational challenges.

Designed for Tower Crane Operations

Unlike conventional battery systems, Potain Power Solutions are engineered to meet the demanding duty cycles and peak power requirements of tower cranes.

The systems deliver stable power during heavy lifting, helping cranes maintain full lifting performance without voltage drops or power interruptions.

Additionally, they provide grid stabilization and uninterruptible power supply (UPS) functionality to protect crane electronics during power fluctuations and outages.

Multiple Capacity Options

Potain Power Solutions are available in several configurations, including 135 kVA and 270 kVA models, with larger systems offering capacities of more than 375 kVA.

The energy systems integrate with the full Potain tower crane range, from entry-level models to larger specialized cranes. They can also supply power to additional jobsite equipment.

Built for Challenging Environments

The systems feature advanced liquid cooling technology to maintain battery performance in hot and humid conditions.

Moreover, their compact design allows easy transport and relocation using forklifts. They are also built to withstand vibration, impacts and the demanding conditions of construction sites.

Lower Fuel Use and Emissions

Manitowoc said the intelligent energy management system can reduce fuel consumption by up to 70% compared with conventional diesel generators.

In fully electric operating mode, users can eliminate diesel generator use altogether. As a result, contractors benefit from quieter operation, lower operating costs and zero on-site emissions.

These features make the systems particularly suitable for urban construction projects where strict noise and environmental regulations apply.

Supporting Sustainable Construction

Robin Chen, New Product Development Manager at Potain, said the new systems enable tower crane owners to operate more efficiently regardless of local power infrastructure.

He added that reducing reliance on diesel generators helps customers lower daily operating costs while supporting their sustainability goals.

The launch of Potain Power Solutions reinforces Manitowoc’s strategy of providing technologies that improve productivity and energy efficiency for crane fleets in emerging markets.
