Rivian has released new renderings of its $5 billion electric vehicle plant in Georgia, designed by SOM.
Rivian, the Irvine, California-based electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, has shared new renderings of its planned manufacturing plant in Stanton Springs, Georgia.
The site sits about an hour east of Atlanta. SOM serves as the design architect, while AEI is the engineer of record. Clayco is providing construction services.
The Rivian EV plant in Georgia is estimated to cost $5 billion. It could also create 7,500 job opportunities by 2030.
A “City in the Forest”
The 1,800-acre site sits alongside I-20 in Stanton Springs. Rivian plans to create a low-rise manufacturing campus surrounded by extensive green space.
Elle Navarro, Rivian’s senior director of facility operations and workplace development, recently described the campus as a “city in the forest.”
The design will integrate buildings with the surrounding landscape. Verdant plantings will line the exteriors, while forested areas will remain across much of the site.
Manufacturing Facilities
The campus will include several facilities dedicated to vehicle production. These buildings will support vehicle assembly, painting, stamping, drive unit production, body work, and battery manufacturing.
Rivian also plans to build a wastewater treatment plant on the site.
In addition, the campus will include extensive parking areas for employees. However, much of the property will remain dedicated to green space and recreation.
Mass Timber and Natural Light
The new renderings reveal large manufacturing buildings with expansive overhangs. A mass timber structural grid of columns, beams, and roof decks will support the design.
Large areas of glazing will wrap the perimeter elevations. Meanwhile, overhead skylights will bring natural light deep into the interiors.
Earth-toned tiles will cover the floors and sections of the walls. These materials complement the natural character of the overall campus.
Recreation and Community Spaces
The campus will offer more than manufacturing facilities. Rivian plans to include spaces for picnics, stargazing, camping, bird watching, and other outdoor activities.
A 13,000-square-foot “Rivian Museum” will also form part of the development.
The wider site will include cabins, a timber bridge, and several ponds. Together, these features support Rivian’s vision of a workplace integrated with nature.
Construction Progress
Rivian announced plans for the new EV plant in 2023. The company has since continued developing its presence in Georgia.
In August 2026, Rivian also opened its East Coast headquarters in Atlanta’s Fourth Ward.
The Georgia manufacturing complex is currently scheduled to become operational in 2028. Once complete, it will represent a major investment in EV manufacturing and employment in the region.
