Skanska Factory Project in Finland Grows in Scope

Skanska has signed a contract worth EUR 33 million (approximately SEK 360 million) with Metso Oyj to deliver the second phase of the Lokomotion Technology Center in Tampere, Finland.

The project will be included in Skanska’s Nordic order bookings for the second quarter of 2026.

Second Phase of Technology Center Begins

The new contract expands the Lokomotion Technology Center, following the successful launch of the project’s first phase in 2024.

Under the second phase, Skanska will construct factory facilities covering approximately 12,000 square meters. The development is designed to strengthen Metso’s research, testing and manufacturing capabilities.

Furthermore, the facility will support the design, testing and production of aggregates and sand-processing technologies, equipment and related components.

Focus on Sustainable Construction

The Technology Center is targeting a BREEAM environmental certification, highlighting a strong commitment to sustainable construction practices and energy-efficient operations.

As environmental standards continue to shape industrial developments across Europe, projects that prioritize sustainability are becoming increasingly important for both manufacturers and investors.

Construction Timeline

Construction work is scheduled to begin during the second quarter of 2026.

Meanwhile, project completion is expected in the second quarter of 2028.

Once operational, the expanded facility will enhance Metso’s ability to develop advanced technologies for the aggregates and mining sectors while supporting long-term industrial growth in Finland.

Strengthening Finland’s Industrial Sector

The investment reflects continued confidence in Finland’s manufacturing and technology industries.

In addition, the project demonstrates growing demand for modern industrial facilities that combine innovation, production capabilities and sustainability objectives.

For Skanska, the contract further strengthens its presence in the Nordic construction market and adds another major industrial project to its portfolio.
