Turner Breaks Ground on $116M School Transformation in East Greenbush, New York

East Greenbush, NY – Turner Construction Company has officially broken ground on the “Building a Bright Future” Capital Project, a transformative $116 million initiative aimed at modernizing learning environments and infrastructure across all seven schools in the East Greenbush Central School District. The event marked a significant milestone in a five-year master plan to elevate student wellbeing and academic opportunity for the growing community just outside Albany.

Phase 1A: Laying the Foundation

The project’s first phase—Phase 1A—is currently in motion. Major upgrades include:

These early efforts set the stage for more comprehensive renovations to follow throughout the district.

A Local Legacy in Action

The project has a strong local connection: Carl Stewart, Turner’s Vice President and General Manager, is a Columbia High School alumnus.

“Turner is proud to partner with the East Greenbush Central School District on this impactful project,” Stewart said. “This investment in our schools will pay dividends for generations of students, educators, and families.”

Turner will work alongside LaBella Associates, the project’s architectural and engineering firm, whose student-centered, innovation-focused design has been widely praised for aligning with modern educational priorities.

Investing in the Future

The “Building a Bright Future” initiative represents one of the largest capital projects in the district’s history. Key long-term goals include:

  • Creating safe, inclusive, and flexible learning spaces
  • Improving energy efficiency and sustainability
  • Upgrading technology infrastructure
  • Supporting mental health and student services through thoughtful facility planning

Community and Collaboration

Community engagement is central to the project’s success. District officials emphasize that the initiative reflects broad stakeholder input, including parents, teachers, and students.

“This project isn’t just about bricks and mortar—it’s about creating environments where all students can thrive,” said a district spokesperson. “We’re excited to see it take shape.”
