AECOM Secures Landmark $27M Environmental Services Contract with Caltrans

AECOM, a global infrastructure leader, has been awarded a $27 million environmental services contract by the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) District 4. This is the largest environmental contract Caltrans has awarded to AECOM, reinforcing its position as a key player in sustainable infrastructure solutions for California.

A Partnership for Resilient Infrastructure

Matt Crane, Chief Executive of AECOM’s U.S. West region, stated:

“Our selection is a testament to our role as a trusted partner for Caltrans as the agency seeks to improve critical infrastructure while safeguarding the environment. With decades of experience in the North San Francisco Bay Area, we bring key knowledge about the region’s unique environments and infrastructure.”

Under this single-award contract, AECOM will provide comprehensive environmental services for transportation projects across Marin, Sonoma, Napa, and Solano counties.

Scope of Work

AECOM’s work will focus on environmental impact assessments, regulatory permitting, and sustainability planning, ensuring that infrastructure improvements align with California’s environmental goals. Services include:

  • CEQA/NEPA Impact Assessments
  • Technical Studies (natural resources, sea level rise, air quality, noise, and community impact)
  • Regulatory Permitting & Compliance
  • Mitigation & Resilience Planning
  • Construction Monitoring
  • Community Engagement & Public Outreach

AECOM will collaborate with local small and disadvantaged businesses, contributing to economic development and job creation in the region.

Addressing Critical Transportation Challenges

The North San Francisco Bay Area is home to some of California’s most scenic and vital transportation corridors, including:

  • Pacific Coast Highway
  • Napa and Sonoma Wine Regions
  • Redwood Forests

However, these areas face aging infrastructure, increasing transportation demands, and environmental threats such as sea level rise, coastal erosion, wildfires, and extreme storms.

Dawn Swider, Regional Environment Business Line Leader for AECOM’s U.S. West region, emphasized:

“Our expertise as the world’s top environmental and transportation firm will enable us to deliver a comprehensive array of services that address Caltrans’ diverse project needs.”

A Sustainable Future for California’s Infrastructure

With this contract, AECOM is set to play a pivotal role in modernizing California’s transportation network, ensuring that critical roadways remain resilient, environmentally sustainable, and efficient for years to come.
