Volvo A45 Articulated Haulers Improve Quarry Productivity in Japan
Kano Kousan Co., Ltd. has received Japan’s first two new-generation Volvo A45 articulated haulers. The aggregates producer operates the machines at its quarry in Shunan City, Yamaguchi Prefecture.
The heavy-duty haulers transport raw stone, overburden and aggregates across the quarry’s rugged terrain. As a result, the machines are helping Kano Kousan improve productivity, fuel efficiency and operator safety.
Higher Payload and Productivity
The new-generation Volvo A45 increases payload capacity from 41 to 42 tonnes. Haul Assist with On-board Weighing also comes standard.
The system helps operators optimise loads in real time. It also reduces the risk of underloading, overloading and material carry-back.
According to Volvo CE dealer Daiichi Toyo, Kano Kousan has moved more material with fewer trips since introducing the new haulers. Operators have also reported lower fuel consumption and easier machine operation on rough terrain.
“The new generation Volvo A45 haulers give the company the confidence and capacity it needs for tough terrain,” said Shuji Kinoshita, Chairman at Daiichi Toyo.
Built for Difficult Quarry Conditions
The new A45 features a new transmission system and Volvo D16J engine. The upgraded drivetrain is designed to improve fuel efficiency, productivity and reliability.
In addition, reinforced axles increase durability for demanding hauling applications. Improved visibility and a redesigned operator interface also support efficient operation.
The hauler uses a 6×6 drive system with Automatic Traction Control. This system adjusts traction to changing ground conditions.
High-flotation, extra-wide tyres help the machine maintain stability on soft surfaces. Meanwhile, Downhill Speed Control supports controlled and steady movement on steep quarry slopes.
Focus on Operator Safety
The Volvo A45 cab reduces noise and vibration to improve operator comfort during long shifts. An integrated camera system also helps reduce blind spots around the machine.
At Kano Kousan, operators follow regular pre- and post-shift inspections. The quarry team also cleans camera lenses and work lights to maintain visibility in dusty and muddy conditions.
Daiichi Toyo supplied the two machines and provides aftermarket support. The dealer uses genuine Volvo parts and provides service assistance to help maintain machine uptime.
“For Kano Kousan, the priority is to keep production moving safely and reliably every day,” Kinoshita said. “With the new generation Volvo A45 haulers and the support of Daiichi Toyo, the company is well-equipped to keep improving its quarry operations.”
