John Deere’s See & Spray™ Technology Covers Over Five Million Acres in 2025, Boosts Yields by Up to 4.8 bu/A

John Deere’s See & Spray™ precision spraying technology was used across more than five million acres of farmland during the 2025 growing season—an area larger than the state of New Jersey. Farmers using the system reduced non-residual herbicide use by nearly 50%, saving around 31 million gallons of herbicide mix, while improving weed control and boosting yields by up to 4.8 bushels per acre.

“See & Spray continues to redefine what’s possible in crop protection,” said Joshua Ladd, Marketing Manager for Application at John Deere. “With See & Spray, farmers save on inputs, protect crops, and increase sustainability—all in a single pass.”

Precision That Pays Off

Introduced in 2021, See & Spray uses boom-mounted cameras and processors to scan more than 2,500 square feet per second at speeds up to 15 mph, identifying weeds and activating individual spray nozzles through the ExactApply™ system. Herbicide is applied only where needed, minimizing waste and crop injury while reducing input costs.

The system is available as a factory installation or a Precision Upgrade kit for John Deere R-series, 400/600 series, and select Hagie sprayers.

Proven Yield and Crop Health Benefits

Independent field studies across seven U.S. states — including Mississippi, Nebraska, and Indiana — found an average yield increase of 2 bushels per acre, with results reaching 4.8 bu/A in some trials. The research, conducted by universities and third-party organizations, also showed reduced crop injury and healthier fields compared to traditional broadcast spraying.

A separate Beck’s Hybrids study supported similar results, confirming yield and economic benefits from targeted herbicide application using See & Spray technology.

Application Savings Guarantee

In 2025, John Deere introduced the Application Savings Guarantee, which allows customers to pay only when the technology delivers measurable savings. Farmers are charged a per-acre fee — $1 for fallow acres or $5 for in-crop acres — based on the unsprayed area identified by the system.

“If See & Spray doesn’t save you money, you don’t pay,” added Ladd. “It’s that simple.”

For the 2026 season, John Deere will introduce an Unlimited Annual License for high-use operations, offering greater flexibility and simplified cost planning.

Enhanced Features for 2025

Recent software updates delivered new capabilities, including:

  • Above-Canopy Spray Support for improved late-season weed control.
  • Expanded corn row spacing support for rows 20 inches or wider.
  • Faster operation at speeds up to 15 mph with See & Spray Premium.
