Digital Solutions Transforming Construction Workflows

The construction industry continues to adopt new technology to improve productivity and reduce errors. Digital tools are becoming essential for managing complex projects and improving communication between teams.

Leica iCON solutions combine robotic total stations, field software, and cloud connectivity. These tools bring digital processes into familiar construction workflows.

Zühal Duran Goeminne, Product Engineer at Leica Geosystems, recently spent two weeks at the Arbora Project in Lausanne, Switzerland. The project involves multiple residential buildings and surrounding infrastructure development.

Her visit provided a close look at how Leica iCON technology supports construction teams on challenging job sites.

Leica iCON Improves the Arbora Project Workflow

During the project, construction teams used Leica iCON field software along with the Leica iCR70 robotic total station and AP20 AutoPole.

The tools helped teams complete different layout tasks across several buildings. Updated project plans and accurate design data allowed foremen to work more efficiently.

One major advantage was faster design file updates. Since multiple buildings were under construction at the same time, teams needed quick access to the latest information.

The Leica ConX cloud service helped connect field teams directly with project files. This reduced the need to return to the office for updated documents.

Real-time access to design data helped improve coordination and kept work moving on site.

Supporting Accurate Layout Tasks

Leica iCON field software supported various layout activities throughout the project.

One early task involved marking corners on a polyethylene sheet before building a rebar structure. The iCR70 was positioned using control points installed by a geomatics engineer.

The system allowed precise placement of markers for the sheet corners and crane base points.

These digital layout tools helped improve accuracy while reducing manual work.

Improving Construction Efficiency Through Technology

The Arbora Project demonstrates how digital construction solutions can support modern job sites.

By combining accurate measurement tools, cloud-based data access, and easy-to-use software, Leica iCON helps teams work faster and with fewer mistakes.

Construction professionals can use these solutions to improve workflow, increase productivity, and manage complex projects more effectively.
