Liebherr USA Receives Prestigious SC&RA Environmental Award for Sustainable Crane Innovation

Newport News, VA (USA) — Liebherr USA, Co. is proud to announce that its mobile and crawler cranes division has been honored with the Environmental Award by the Specialized Carriers & Rigging Association (SC&RA). The award was presented during the SC&RA Annual Conference held on Amelia Island in April 2026.

This international recognition highlights Liebherr’s unwavering commitment to environmental protection and its leadership in the global crane, rigging, and specialized transportation industry.

Celebrating Excellence in Sustainability

The SC&RA Environmental Award is a highly competitive accolade, with dozens of entries submitted from firms across the United States and around the world. As an organization representing 1,350 members from 46 nations, the SC&RA sets the benchmark for worldwide excellence.

Simon Schuster, Divisional Director of mobile and crawler cranes at Liebherr USA, Co., accepted the award.

“This award means a lot to the entire Liebherr team,” said Schuster. “It not only highlights the great measures we are taking towards a more sustainable future, but it also demonstrates the excellent teamwork between our crane factory in Germany and our mixed sales organization here in the US.”

Driving the Future with Innovative Solutions

Liebherr is at the forefront of the construction industry’s shift toward green technology. By adopting a technology-neutral approach, the company offers a diverse range of alternative drives designed for emission-free construction sites:

  • Electric Mobility: Development of hybrid-electric and battery-powered “unplugged” cranes.
  • Mobile Energy Storage: Systems that enable emission-free operation even in remote areas without grid access.
  • Renewable Energy Support: Liebherr cranes are essential to the U.S. wind industry, assisting in the erection of wind turbines nationwide.
  • The Circular Economy: Through the Liebherr-Reman program, used components are remanufactured to “same-as-new” quality, conserving energy-intensive materials.

Safety and Performance Without Compromise

While sustainability is a priority, Liebherr continues to set the standard for safety and lifting capacity. Their mobile and crawler cranes are equipped with advanced in-house assistance systems, including:

  • Rear-area camera monitoring
  • Blind-spot detection
  • Collision warning systems

These innovations ensure maximum efficiency and safety both on public roads and active construction sites across the United States.
