Liebherr-Australia commissions a new fleet for Northern Star Resources at the Super Pit in Kalgoorlie, Western Australia

Liebherr-Australia has successfully commissioned five PR 776 dozers for Northern Star Resources Ltd, marking the first delivery of 13 brand-new Liebherr machines for the customer. This initial batch of machines will be complemented by two additional PR 776 dozers, five R 9150 excavators, and one R 9400 excavator. All 13 machines will be delivered throughout 2025, most of them working at the Super Pit – one of Australia’s largest gold mines located in Kalgoorlie, Western Australia. These machines will join Northern Star Resources’ existing fleet, which includes four R 9400 excavators that were delivered in 2022.

Expanding Liebherr’s presence in Western Australia

This commissioning further strengthens Liebherr-Australia’s commitment to supporting the growing mining industry in Western Australia. The expansion of Liebherr’s fleet at the Super Pit is a result of Liebherr’s continued investment in the region, exemplified by the opening of a Kalgoorlie branch in 2022. The Kalgoorlie branch now provides essential spare parts, tooling capabilities, and customer service to mining companies in the area.

In 2022, Liebherr-Australia also expanded its Perth facility from 34,000 m² to 81,000 m², which now serves as the central hub for zero-emission, autonomy, and technology developments supporting autonomous and zero-emission mining equipment.

Commitment to the future of mining in Western Australia

‘Our partnership with Northern Star Resources and the commissioning of these machines mark an important milestone for Liebherr-Australia and the Western Australian mining industry,’ said Brian Boitano, executive general manager of sales, marketing, training, and solutions at Liebherr-Australia. ‘With these machines, we’re proud to help drive efficiency, safety, and scaling in gold mining operations for years to come.’

Liebherr-Australia is committed to further expanding its footprint in Western Australia, with plans to double its operations, workforce, and physical space in Perth by 2030 to meet the increasing demand for mining equipment in the region.
