Huntington Bank Field Stadium Construction Begins Today

Huntington Bank Field Stadium Construction Begins Today

Haslam Sports Group, in partnership with a joint venture between AECOM Hunt and Turner Construction Company, has officially broken ground on the new Huntington Bank Field. The state-of-the-art venue will become the future home of the Cleveland Browns starting in 2029.

Designed by HKS, the project marks the beginning of the largest economic development initiative in Northeast Ohio’s history.

A Landmark Development for the Region

To begin with, the groundbreaking ceremony signals the launch of a transformative mixed-use development in Brook Park. In addition, the stadium will serve as Ohio’s first fully enclosed venue, enabling year-round events.

Moreover, the project is expected to generate significant economic impact. It will create over 6,000 construction jobs and thousands of long-term positions across the stadium district.

Designed to Redefine the Fan Experience

The new Huntington Bank Field will introduce several industry-first features. Most notably, the design focuses on bringing fans closer to the action than ever before.

Key highlights include:

  • A revolutionary seating bowl with the closest seats in the NFL
  • A transparent roof allowing natural light throughout the venue
  • A long-span roof system without trusses, enhancing sightlines
  • Flexible capacity for up to 75,000 attendees

As a result, the stadium will support a wide range of events, including NFL games, NCAA tournaments, international soccer matches, and major concerts.

Engineering Innovation Meets Architectural Vision

Because the stadium is fully enclosed, it requires advanced engineering solutions. Therefore, the collaboration between AECOM Hunt, Turner Construction, and HKS plays a critical role in execution.

In particular, the roofing system and seating geometry demonstrate how structural innovation can enhance both performance and user experience.

This approach reflects broader trends in smart structural design in large-scale developments, where engineering precision supports ambitious architectural concepts.

Economic and Community Impact

Beyond the stadium itself, the project includes a mixed-use entertainment district led by Lincoln Property Company.

Consequently, the development will:

  • Attract tourism and large-scale events
  • Strengthen the regional economy
  • Create a new destination hub in Northeast Ohio

Furthermore, the project emphasizes local collaboration. Contractors such as DiGeronimo Companies and Independence Excavating are actively involved.

Industry Context

Overall, the Huntington Bank Field project highlights the evolution of modern stadium construction. Developers are now prioritizing flexibility, technology integration, and year-round usability.

This trend aligns with innovations in advanced construction technologies transforming the built environment, where high-ROI solutions drive efficiency and performance.

Similarly, it connects with digital construction workflows and 3D capture technologies, which improve coordination and project execution across large-scale developments.
