Skanska has signed a contract to construct a new emergency building at Karlstad Central Hospital, strengthening healthcare infrastructure in Sweden.
Major Hospital Development Project Begins
Skanska will continue the expansion of Karlstad Central Hospital with the construction of a new emergency facility.
The contract is valued at approximately SEK 4.4 billion and will be included in Skanska’s Sweden order bookings for the second quarter of 2026.
The project will create a modern healthcare facility designed to support future medical needs.
High-Tech Emergency Facility
The new building will cover around 90,000 square meters.
The seven-story facility will include:
- A new emergency department
- A rooftop helicopter landing pad
- A maternity department
- An infectious diseases department
- An intensive care unit
The building will use advanced technology and focus on operational reliability.
Focus on Sustainability and Resilience
The project includes strong goals for sustainability and long-term durability.
Skanska aims to create a facility that can support healthcare services efficiently while meeting future demands.
Construction is expected to begin in autumn 2026.
The company plans to complete the project in 2033.
