Skanska to Build $73M Performing Arts Center for Longwood University in Virginia

Farmville, Virginia — September 2025 — Skanska has signed a $73 million contract (approx. SEK 730M) with Longwood University to construct a new performing arts center in Farmville, Virginia. The project, included in Skanska’s U.S. order bookings for the third quarter of 2025, will replace the aging Wygal Hall and become a new hub for the University’s arts programs.

The development involves the demolition of the Bristow Building and construction of a 6,000-square-meter facility designed to accommodate existing programs from the former Wygal Hall. The new center will feature state-of-the-art music teaching spaces, flexible rehearsal and performance areas, faculty offices, and a 500-seat concert hall.

Designed with sustainability in mind, the facility is targeting LEED-NC Silver certification.

Construction began in August 2025 and is scheduled for completion in April 2028.

The new performing arts center represents a significant investment in student learning, cultural programming, and community engagement, strengthening Longwood University’s role as a center for arts and education in Virginia.
