Asia Pacific Infrastructure Innovation Index 2026 Overview

Asia Pacific Infrastructure Innovation Index 2026 Overview

AECOM and the Urban Land Institute (ULI) have launched the first Asia Pacific Infrastructure Innovation Index, highlighting how the region is using innovation to address growing infrastructure challenges.

AECOM and ULI introduced the Asia Pacific Infrastructure Innovation Index 2026, a new report that explores how infrastructure leaders across the region are adopting new approaches.

The report examines how organizations are responding to increasing complexity, operational demands, and changing delivery requirements.

It brings together views from government agencies, infrastructure companies, utilities, investors, planners, and developers.

The Index uses insights from more than 100 senior infrastructure professionals across Asia Pacific. It also includes interviews with industry leaders.

Focus on Practical Innovation

The report shows that infrastructure organizations are moving beyond ideas and applying innovation in real projects.

Ian Chung, chief executive of AECOM’s Asia region, said companies are using innovation to improve delivery, resilience, and system performance.

He added that leaders are strengthening digital capabilities and improving coordination between connected infrastructure systems.

Key Themes Shaping the Future

The Index identifies three major themes influencing infrastructure development across Asia Pacific.

Artificial Intelligence in Infrastructure

AI is becoming an important tool for improving infrastructure systems.

Organizations are exploring how AI can support planning, operations, and decision-making.

Changing Energy Systems

Energy infrastructure is facing new demands as cities grow and technology advances.

The report highlights the need for stronger integration and improved system management.

Climate-Resilient Infrastructure

Infrastructure leaders are also focusing on climate resilience.

Projects must now consider long-term environmental challenges and changing conditions.

Connecting Infrastructure and Communities

Alan Beebe, CEO Asia Pacific at ULI, said infrastructure and real estate are becoming increasingly connected.

Modern infrastructure plays a major role in how cities grow, function, and perform.

The report provides a foundation for understanding how innovation is shaping the future of the built environment.

AECOM and ULI said the Index will help industry leaders identify opportunities to improve infrastructure outcomes across the Asia Pacific region.
